Q. What is the Oregon State Parks Trust?

A. Founded in 1995, the "Trust" is the only statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and enhancing Oregon’s state park system.

Q. Is Oregon State Parks Trust a part of the Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation?

A. No. Oregon State Parks Trust is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation is a division of the State of Oregon. Oregon State Parks Trust and Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation share common goals and objectives relative to preserving and enhancing Oregon's state parks.

Q. Are donations to Oregon State Parks Trust tax-deductible?

A. All donations to Oregon State Parks Trust are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. If you have specific questions about the deductibility of a donation, please consult a tax attorney or the IRS.

Q. What are Oregon State Parks Trust's office hours?

A. Oregon State Parks Trust's office is usually open Mondays through Fridays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time). Our offices are closed for major holidays. Because we sometimes work away from our offices, please call ahead if would like to stop by to visit.

Q. I heard that the Oregon Legislature recently took $1.8 million that people like me had paid to support the Oregon Cultural Trust and instead used it to help balance the state's budget. If I donate to Oregon State Parks Trust, can the govenment take what I contribute and use it elsewhere?

A. No! Oregon State Parks Trust is an independent 501(c)(3) organization; the govenment cannot take funds from our organization, nor can they redirect the funds that we have on-hand. If you donate to Oregon State Parks Trust, your donation will be used by Oregon State Parks Trust to achieve our organization's mission, goals and objectives.

Q. Is Oregon State Parks Trust government-funded or -operated?

A. No. The Trust is 100% privately operated. Members of our Board of Trustees are all volunteers. Our funding comes entirely through donations and grants.

Q. Why are public/private partnerships critical to the future of Oregon State Parks?

A. Private support has always played a key role in state parks. In order to understand why private funding is critical, it is important to understand the history of state parks funding.

Q. What kind of projects does Oregon State Parks Trust fund?

A. Oregon State Parks Trust is interested in any projects that have to do with preserving and improving parks and green spaces in Oregon. Specifically, we’re involved in park-related education, restoration of historic sites, facility rehabilitation, property acquisition and public recreation enhancements. For a more detailed list of our current projects, please see Our Work.

Q. Where can I find out more about Oregon's state parks?

A. Information on Oregon’s state parks is provided by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.  For general information, please call the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department at 800-551-6949.  To make a campsite reservation, please call Reservations Northwest at 800-452-5687. Additional information is also available online at www.prd.state.or.us
