The Historic Columbia River Highway (HCRH) was this nation’s first scenic highway - a testimony to the artistry and architecture of road construction that had never been done before. The graceful curves, arched bridges, stone masonry work, careful selection of the road design to reveal the “beauty spots,” and the engineering marvel make a compelling story.

Volunteers in the Gorge

Volunteers in the Gorge was formed through a partnership between the Oregon State Police and the Oregon State Parks. This program was established to utilize citizen volunteers to work within the western boundaries of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area from the Sandy River to Cascade Locks.
